Pizza Bible Trivia

Purpose Statement/Goal:
To let youth get familiar with the scriptures of the bible and how to find a topic that they are looking for, without overwhleming them. The fact that there is food involved keeps them motivated.

Supply Lists:

Bibles, Concordances and/or Bible Reference Books, pizza dough and toppings

Basic Outline:

  1. Students get divided into “equal but diverse” groups of 3-4
  2. The point of the game is this, you give the whole group a topic, like worrying or a current hot issue, and each team has to tell you where the bible stands on the issue, and support that stand with a scripture, opposing viewpoints are welcome as long as they can be supported with scripture. You may also have to quickly teach them to use a concordance.
  3. Explain how the points work and remind them that all the points they get can be used to buy pizza ingredients.
    • Every question is worth 3 points total
    • If the team needs a reference book it reduces the value to 2 points
    • If they are able to answer but can’t find a scripture, they may still have 1 point
    • Depending on the group I sometimes allow mulitple answers to each team for more points.
  4. I start with a quick fire question – for example I quick go through the groups and give them a point if they can tell me another name for God in the Bible and I go around the room until no one can think of anymore. It starts the game off with them having enough points for at least a cheese pizza.
  5. After we are done with the topics I end with another quick fire to try and even out the points a little bit, then I look at the point totals and decide what the ingredients are going to cost so that they have to work as a team to decide on ingredients, but also have enough to feel like the accomplished something. I usually go with about 15 for the team crust, 15 for sauce, and 5 pts for an individual serving of a topping.
  6. I then play a team activity while the pizzas are cooking to break down the competitive attitude they developed during the game and bring the unity back.

Helpful Hints:

Send the topic list out ahead of time the second time you play it, so that they come in prepared with their bibles marked – it is impressive to see those bibles all marked up just for more pizza toppings! Let them justify their “wierd” answers – it lets you see how they are using faith in thier lives.
